Biography:
Lando Calrissian (Cloud City), as portrayed in Episode 5: The Empire Strikes Back, is a pivotal character in the Star Wars Original Trilogy. His first appearance is indeed in The Empire Strikes Back (1980).
Prior to the events of the film, Lando was a smuggler and gambler who lost the Cloud City mining colony on Bespin to the Empire via a gambling debt. He then became the administrator of Cloud City, where he attempted to maintain a neutral stance amidst the growing Galactic Civil War.
When Han Solo, Leia Organa, and Chewbacca arrive at Cloud City seeking refuge, Lando initially welcomes them. However, he is soon coerced by Darth Vader to betray them in order to protect Cloud City from Imperial occupation.
Regretting his decision, Lando ultimately redeems himself by helping Leia and Chewbacca escape and joining the Rebel Alliance. He plays a crucial role in the Rebellion's fight against the Empire in subsequent events.
